[UCI-Linux] Debian AMD64 distro?

Has anyone on campus used Debian's AMD64 installation and distro yet?
Or the Debian-based ubuntu distro?
Any gotchas/catastrophes yet?

With any of the other AMD64 (aka x86-64) distros (Suse, Fedora Core), 
what has been the upshot as to improved performance on generic or 
local codes, especially with large memory calculations?
