Specialist in Earth System Modeling at UC Irvine. Posted March 3, 2003.

The Climate and Aerosol group at UC Irvine (www.ess.uci.edu/~zender)
seeks a permanent, full-time scientific specialist with enthusiasm for
applying advanced computing techniques to global environmental problems.
We use sophisticated numerical models of the Earth system to improve
understanding of aerosols, trace gases, and clouds in the
climate-chemistry system.
You will maintain and run high performance numerical codes, analyze
and visualize large geophysical datasets, help write papers, supervise
model releases and web site, and provide data to interested scientists.

Required:
BS or equivalent experience in computer science, atmospheric
science, chemistry, engineering, or related field.
Strong skills in Fortran9X and/or C/C++.
Skill in software development (CVS, Make) and Linux administration.

Desired:
Experience with numerical models on UNIX supercomputers.
Knowledge of geophysical data visualization and analysis software
(IDL, NCL, Matlab, Perl, Python), data storage standards (netCDF,
HDF), parallel programming techniques and message passing (OpenMP,
MPI), web site design.
