Abstract: The number of devices interconnected in a home, and to the Internet, is predicted to be in the billions in only a few years.  With this mass expansion, what are the current trends, potential pitfalls, and best practices for connecting devices in the home?  This talk will explore Device Area Networks in the home with a focus on scalability, reliability, affordability and simplicity. An overview of existing technologies, strengths and weakness will be covered.
A simple, quick, and easy approach to helping companies connect their products to the IoT home market will be presented using Insteon simulcast dual mesh technology.

Short Bio: Dan Cregg <http://es2025.eng.uci.edu/cregg> began his tenure at SmartLabs as director of engineering and product development in 2000, when SmartLabs acquired SmartLinc, a  company Cregg co-founded. He is consider the "Father of INSTEON" a simulcast mesh networking technology introduced in 2005. INSTEON has been incorporated into hundreds of products bringing the Internet of Things to the mass market. Cregg also founded and was president of  HomeRun Automation, which was purchased by SmartLinc in 1997. Cregg has held engineering and management positions at McDonnell-Douglas, SVG Thermco, and Universal Electronics.  Cregg holds both Bachelor and Master degrees  in engineering from California State University, Long Beach, is a member of the engineering school's executive advisory council, and is an adjunct professor in Computer Engineering.
