Title: Strategies for a Successful University Research Program: Raising stature in an era of declining funding
Speaker: Ganesh Raman , Deputy Vice-Provost for Research at the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Professor of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering

Date: Thursday, February 5, 2015

Time: 4 pm - Presentation, UCI's Calit2 Building Auditorium; 5 pm - Reception, UCI's Calit2 Building Atrium

Abstract: This forum is intended to be a dialogue with active audience participation. The discussion will focus on techniques for tenure-track faculty to develop a funded research program in today's challenging funding climate. Strategies for both Federal and Industry funding will be discussed. Some ideas for how mid-career faculty can change research areas to benefit from emerging topics will be covered. Examples of initiatives undertaken at the Illinois Institute of Technology will be shared with the group. The institution's role in stimulating research and the connectivity between the research enterprise and other units on campus such as corporate relations, career management and development will be discussed.
