About the Speakers

Peter J. Burke
Peter J. Burke received the Ph.D. degree in physics from Yale
University, New Haven, CT, in 1998. From 1998 to 2001, he was a Sherman
Fairchild Postdoctoral Scholar in physics at the California Institute of
Technology.

Since 2001, he has been a faculty member in the Dept. of Electrical Eng
and Comp Science (& Biomedical Engineering), UCI. His lab at UCI has
been focused on nanotechnology and biotechnology. They demonstrated the
first RF nanotube transistors, the first circuit models for nanotube
interconnects, amplifiers, and nano-antennas, and recently demonstrated
the "world's smallest radio". To commercialize the technology, he
co-founded RF Nano Corporation in 2005, nurturing it through active
participation in recruiting a management & technical team and raising >
$3M in venture and grant funding, including 3 SBIR awards. He is the
recipient of the ONR Young Investigator Award and the Army Research
Office Young Investigator Award.

His lab recently has begun projects on synthetic biology and exploring
the environmental impacts of nanotechnology through basic studies of the
interaction of artificial nanostructures with living systems.

Steffen Mckernan
Steffen Mckernan, Ph.D., Director and CEO, RF Nano Dr. Mckernan earned
his physics doctorate at Princeton University with a thesis remarkably
well aligned with RF Nano's technology. His 12 years of business
experience on tech strategy and operations at McKinsey & Co., strategy
and business development at Conexant Systems, and the best in execution
at EHS Partners keep RF Nano's execution and strategy fully aligned.
