Please join us tomorrow morning for the second in our new "Morning Mix"
breakfast series and get an inside look at this week's featured
research: LifeChips' microdroplet systems.

UCI's LifeChips program combines the efforts of life scientists and
technologists to research and develop new products at the intersection
of life and microtechnology. Applications include research tools for
cancer research, minimally invasive medical devices, micro-prosthetics
and diagnostics on chip.

This week Dr. Lily Wu will discuss nanovolume chemistry on a chip. This
technology, currently in development at UCI, uses microfluidic channels
and uniquely shaped microcavities that force water to controllably break
up into precision microdroplets at known locations. Hundreds of these
tiny microdroplets can be formed simultaneously, enabling the creation
of hundreds of tiny assays on a small chip. This approach is useful in
solubility screening or combinatorial chemistry, where many different
conditions need to be tested.
