Title: Technological Challenges to Computer Architecture Innovation
Speaker: Faye Briggs, Intel Corp.

Abstract: Computer architecture has evolved significantly over the past 30 years, but enormous constraints in technology are creating significant challenges. This lecture will provide an overview of the many variables and constraints that will continue to challenge traditional computer architecture innovation, with the goal of triggering more research that could lead to potential breakthroughs in the field.
Bio: Briggs is senior principal engineer and director of Platform Performance Architecture, Enterprise Products Group at Intel Corp. He led the architecture and engineering teams that developed the Intel AE870 for 2-16P Itanium AE servers. Briggs co-authored a popular textbook on computer architecture and parallel processing, and has published more than 40 technical papers. He received his master's degree from Stanford and doctorate from the University of Illinois.
