REMARKS ON THE SPECIFIC AIMS OF VISIT:

1. To generate interest in the IUCRP program - 5 fields such as
Biotechnology, Information Technology for Life Sciences, Communications
& Networking, Digital Media, and Electronics Materials & Manufacturing.

2. To highlight the fact that funding over $15 million is available in
UC/state funding, and when coupled with industry contributions, a net
total of $40 million is available during this year.

3. Areas on which the visit will focus include the following:
  (a) Communications and Networking
  (b) Digital Media
  (c) Information Technology for Life Sciences

4.(a) In COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKING- All aspects of hardware and
software issues, embedded systems, security, networking issues,
multi-vendor interfacing, WIFI, RFID, ultra-broadband, etc.

  (b) In DIGITAL MEDIA, the following topics are interesting- multimedia
applications, graphics, video games, animation, image processing,
computing environments, AI, human-computer interfaces, including
hardware for digital media applications. Issues pertaining to digital
content delivery, privacy, and digital rights management are all
important for the Program.

  (c) In INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR LIFE SCIENCES, the topics include:
medical informatics, healthcare delivery over mobile networks, systems
biology, biochemical pathways, digital organ atlas/digital biology, etc.

Topics that lie at the interface of the above fields are also highly
encouraged. IUCRP is especially interested in emerging technologies such
as nanotechnology (nano-biology, nano-electronics, etc.) that have
enormous long term potential.
