The Grid is an emerging new infrastructure technology that seems to be =
everywhere these days. IBM, Oracle, HP, Charles Schwab, are some of the =
companies that are lining up behind the Grid, to name a few. But what is =
the Grid, and how did it transition from the scientific community to the =
corporate world in just a few short years?

Join Carl Kesselman from the University of Southern California's =
Information Sciences Institute for answers to these and other questions =
about the Grid. Dr. Kesselman is a leader in the development of Grid =
technology and has received international recognition for his work, =
including the 2003 Ada Lovelace Medal, an R&D100 Award from R&D =
magazine, and was named one of the top 10 innovators for 2003 by =
InfoWorld.

The presentation will include a discussion of what the Grid is and its =
application to a range of different applications, from science and =
engineering to business. These different applications will lead to new =
business opportunities. He will also describe the role of open software =
and open standards in moving technology from academia into the business =
world and how business opportunities are built on freely available =
technology.
