I am excited to share a new online exhibit, "Commemorating the Greek War of
Independence," created by two undergraduate students at the University of
Michigan, Quinn Byington and William McClelland, under the mentorship of
Zachary Quint, the Librarian for Classical Studies and Modern Greek, using
resources available in the University of Michigan library and in the
broader region of SE Michigan

Find the exhibit here:

The exhibit examines the Greek revolution from the international
perspective of 19th century European politics, the origins of nationalism
and the modern nation-state, philhellenism, and the Greek diaspora.
Sections detail the reactions of countries such as the United States, Great
Britain, the Russian Empire, the Austrian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the
Greek diaspora, and philhellenes.

Quinn Byington and William McClelland are both rising juniors majoring in
History (Quinn) and Classical Civilization with a History minor (William).
They worked for three months as a part of the Michigan Library Scholars

 program.

This was an initiative of Zachary Quint, in alignment with the priority
UM's Modern Greek program places a priority on undergraduate and graduate
student research, learning, and support. Happy summer reading!
