Dear Chris,

Apart from Kostis' suggestion (definitely, 666 is one of the most
representative ones), your friend could check
Akritas's self-titled album [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEkOpaPDg4E]
Ηρακλής, Σε Άλλους Κόσμους [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Sk8qaJ5c0w]
King Crimson influence is evident there
Also, there is a band that you should definitely check out, Sleeping
Pillow, and of course, Methexis.

and then, I could suggest some progressive metal bands, like Horizon's End
(Thessaloniki), and some from my hometown, Larissa, Sunburst, Black Fate,
Innosense, The Chronicle's Project

I hope these suggestions help.

All the best,
Nikos
