> NHM Virtual Book Club Registration for July is now open!
>
> Join us Thursday July 16th at 7pm as NHM launches our Virtual Book Club, facilitated by our Resident Scholar Dr. Katherine Kelaidis. Each month the NHM Book Club will choose a book that is either inspired by the Hellenic legacy or by a Greek American author (and sometimes both!). Then we will gather to discuss the book on Zoom!
>
> This month we will discuss Omeros, by the Nobel Prize winning writer Derrick Walcott. This modern epic poem adapts Homer's Odyssey and Iliad to tell the story of Walcott's native St. Lucia and the writer's own life, in a sweeping narrative that jumps St. Lucia to Brookline, Massachusetts, to the great capitals of Europe.
>
> Book Club will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm CDT and is free to attend, all you need to do is register!

> Upcoming "The Past & Future of the Hagia Sophia" Lecture
>
> Join us on our Youtube page on Wednesday July 15th when our Resident Scholar, Dr. Katherine Kelaidis, will discuss the past and future of the Hagia Sophia.
>
> Originally the great cathedral of the Christian East, construction on the Hagia Sophia began in 517. It has, over the centuries, both both a Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic cathedral as well as a mosque. Since 1935, the building had served as a museum; however, a recent ruling by a Turkish court has paved the way for the Hagia Sophia to be reconverted into a mosque. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan announced that it would be reopened to Muslim worship the same day. In this talk, we will cover the history of the Hagia Sophia, the political consequences of its future, and what it means for the Hellenic legacy in Asia Minor.
