>>
>> Dear Friend,
>>
>> I sincerely hope you are well and that your time at home has brought an opportunity to deepen connections with family and to spend some time reading, watching movies, and thinking — especially about Hellenic Culture!
>>
>> Over the past few months, the UCLA SNF Center has been engaged in a broad range of activities: co-hosting a lecture series, Hellenic Together, with the Benaki Museum, engaging scholars in a new collaboration, Erγastirio, which focuses on Hellenic-American issues, chatting with our students and members of the community through our Kouvenda initiative, and continuing our Greek Book Club. We are gratified that so many members of the community have participated in these efforts. We have also continued the renovation of our permanent office space, which we hope to open to the public once our campus can once again safely accept visitors.
>>
>> Beginning on Saturday, July 11, we will begin a series of four morning Zoom conversations with local Hellenic book authors — thinking about their ideas, the craft of writing, and their inspirations. We are so fortunate to have so many talented people in this community! Each of the conversations will take place at 10:00 AM. Please have coffee and questions ready for each of these events. Although I will be sending out announcements before each lecture, please mark your calendars with the following dates:
>>
>> Saturday, July 11: Linda Reid (Yolanda Stassinopoulos) & Deborah Shlian, Deep Waters
>> (Sammy Greene Series Book 3)
>> Saturday, July 18: Louis Anastas, Zeus Rising: A Memoir
>> Saturday, July 25: Constance M. Constant, American Kid: Nazi-Occupied Greece
>> through a Child’s Eyes
>> Saturday, August 1: Jim Birakos, Unlucky Tuesday: Will Civilization Die on a Tuesday?
>>
>> I am very glad to have the opportunity to showcase these exceptional writers, and hope you will get to know them through these hour-long conversations. To take part, please RSVP: hellenic at humnet.ucla.edu.
>>
>> We will continue our activities in October with a series of exciting lectures presenting recent finds in Greek archaeology, focusing on sites in Arkadia, Epiros, and the Cyclades. This lecture series, which is being coordinated by Professor John Papadopoulos, a member of the Center’s Faculty Advisory Board, is co-sponsored by the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology.
>>
>> In November, we will continue our lecture series with the Benaki Museum, offering new lectures on aspects of the museum’s collection. If you missed any of the recent lectures, I will be sending links so that you can listen at your leisure.
>>
>> Of course, you can easily follow all of our activities on our Facebook page and on our website, where there is a full calendar.
>>
>> Wishing you continued good health,
