Fourth Annual Translation Workshop:

Modern Greek to English

April 29-30, 2020

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for a two-day Translation Workshop, to be held on April 29-30, 2020, focusing on the translation of Modern Greek texts into English. The goal of the workshop is to encourage collaborative, creative thinking about specific projects, and also to further an interest in Greek literature as a growing field for literary translation. The organizing committee will choose promising early-career translators with interest and ability in Modern Greek. Domestic travel and accommodation will be provided for all participants; we are unable to accept applications from translators currently residing outside the US.

The workshop will be run by Peter Constantine, a highly acclaimed professional translator from numerous languages, including Greek, and Director of the Literary Translation Program at the University of Connecticut; he will be aided by Karen Emmerich, Director of the Program in Translation and Intercultural Communication at Princeton and translator of Greek literature. We will focus primarily on pre-circulated texts of the participants' own choosing.

Applicants are requested to send a brief note explaining their interest in and experience with translation from Greek, and a sample of the translation you hope to workshop to karene at princeton.edu<mailto:karene at princeton.edu> by February 15, 2020. The sample should be no more than 5 pages; please also include a copy of the Greek text being translated.
