Dear MGSA-List members:

I wish you all happy holidays.

I just learned that the European Division of the Library of Congress has an
entry level reference librarian position with good promotion potential for
a specialist who will focus on building the Albanian- and Modern
Greek-language collections, on related reference work, and on promoting the
collections through presentations and publications. The Library of Congress
has considerable collections of materials from and about Greece, Cyprus,
Albania, Kosovo and ethnic Albanians and Greeks elsewhere.

See https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/588178400 for details and
information on how to apply.

There are a series of questions about experience to respond to, linked to
from the job announcement, that include an explanation of the desired
knowledge of the two languages (as well as other aspects). This may be of
particular interest:

*Ability to communicate in English, Modern Greek, and Albanian.** Communicated
professional and/or technical information in English and in both Modern
Greek and Albanian to support a wide range of professional activities
including reading, writing, speaking, and/or **‎**translating. If the
language experience described above does not include both Modern Greek and
Albanian, then the language the candidate has less experience with must be
at least a working knowledge sufficient to support reference, collection
development, and/or research tasks.*

Please note the statement about the U.S. citizenship requirement for this
U.S. federal agency.

The job posting is open until January 26, 2021.

The reference librarian opening, which is much more than reference work, is
an excellent career opportunity. Colleagues in this division generally have
two master’s degrees or a doctorate.

May the new year bring health and joy,
