While I agree with Akis, generalizations regarding such statistics can be harmful to one's credibility long term, I think this points to a larger problem and raises some interesting questions). Take the "roughly" 1.2 million figure, for example. That is the number of immigrants and refugees entering Greece over the course of a decade. That figure does not accurately represent all displaced individuals who were documented as Greek by the authorities representing the various government bureaucracies worldwide. Greece was only one of the nations receiving immigrants and refugees over the course of that decade. So, technically, it could be "millions more" or hundreds-of-thousands, or tens-of-thousands, or thousands, or hundreds I would rather not speculate. To rap up here and taking Akis's assertion into consideration, the questions this advertisement raises: 1. How many immigrants and refugees were displaced worldwide from the former Ottoman Empire and to which countries? 2. How did they enter those countries ("legally" or "illegally")? The second question is linked to the first and its answer would, I believe, aid in statistical accuracy.


Glad to see the advertisement for this documentary has raised such questions.

These figures are hardly convincing and seem thrown almost at random, in order to impress. Especially the vague expression "millions more", without any reference of a precise number (how many millions? Two? Thirty ...?).
According to a more or less generally accepted estimation in Greek historiography, the number of Ottoman Greeks uprooted in 1922 was roughly 1,2 million.
The only thing one achieves by exaggerating is to undermine one's credibility in the long term.

Under the fog of war during World War 1, the Genocide of the Greeks was carried out at the hands of the Ottoman and Nationalist Turks.

3,000 years of history, destroyed and almost erased in only 10 years, 1913-1923.
