"Since 1935 the Department of Greek and Latin at Copenhagen University has been the world center of research in Byzantine chant. For the last 26 years this position has been enhanced and expanded by Christian Troelsgaard, who is Director of the Monumenta Musicae Byzantinae. A new manager of this department last week decided that such a small subject had no place in his vision for the University, so told Christian that he would be sacked in three weeks' time. This would not merely be a catastrophe for Christian himself, since he is the only salaried staff member involved with the Monumenta, but would call the future of the whole project into question: there is a substantial library of microfilms, with comprehensive collections of secondary literature and even half a dozen Byzantine music manuscripts in the department, and there would be a real risk of their being dispersed or disposed of.

The members of the Editorial Committee have drawn up a petition, with an open letter to the Rector and Dean which they are encouraging people to sign. It will be announced in the AIEB Newsletter to be circulated on Monday. The link is here: http://chng.it/WnvzKY95L7
