Assistant Teaching Professor in Modern Greek Culture

 The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis invites applications for a specialist in Modern Greek Culture.  This position is a nine month appointment as a non-tenure-track assistant teaching professor.  It is affiliated with the Hellenic Government-Karakas Family Foundation Professorship in Greek Studies within the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology within the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology and the Office of International Studies and Programs at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.  

 The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses each semester, assigned by the Greek Professorship.  The successful candidate will also participate actively in the public outreach program of the Greek Professorship (Oral History Project and presentation/organization of public events for the local Greek community). 

 Applicants must have a PhD or ABD status in any area relating to Modern Greece and proven excellence in teaching.   Preference will be given to candidates with experience in public outreach. The ability to teach courses in modern and recent Greek History, politics, or economics would be a plus.  If approved by the relevant departments, courses offered by the successful candidate may be cross-listed.

 The appointee will report to the Chair of the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology and the Director of International Studies and Programs, and will be evaluated annually on the basis of teaching performance and effectiveness of public outreach efforts with the local Greek-American community.

 The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of renewal. Salary is $45,000 annually plus benefits. The position will begin in August 2019.
