[MGSA-L] "Greek Necropolis" by Peter Jeffreys on UM Cavafy Forum

The UM Cavafy Forum was created by Vassilis Lambropoulos, who is now C. P.
Cavafy Professor Emeritus. We intend to continue this work despite
Professor Lambropoulos's retirement,

Here is the newest publication, just in time for the beginning of UM's fall
semester today.

The UM Cavafy Forum has published "Greek Necropolis

,"  a poem by Peter Jeffreys, a Cavafy specialist and Associate Professor
of English at Suffolk University. The poem is an ekphrastic  tribute to the
unique cemetery established in 1842 by London's Anglo-Greek Community at
the South Metropolitan Cemetery at West Norwood.  Jeffreys visited the
graveyard as part of his ongoing research for a biography of C.P. Cavafy,
whose family was part of the London Greek community. He reflects on the
cemetery and his experience there in an introduction the the poem, "The
