The Center for Hellenic Studies at the University of California San Diego congratulates David Idol on the publication of his article, "The "Peaceful Conquest" of Lake Kopaïs: Modern Water Management and Environment in Greece” in the Journal of Modern Greek Studies (vol. 36 no. 1, 2018, pp. 71-95). David is a PhD candidate in Modern Greek History at UC San Diego. His article drew on research that was undertaken as part of his doctoral project entitled “Betting on the Farm: Rural Economic and Environmental History in Greece, 1860-1900.” David’s dissertation, which he will defend later this year, brings together economic history and environmental history, as well as landscape studies and GIS spatial studies.
