A 9-day summer programme that will feed your knowledge and unlock your skills with active and experiential learning on the migration agenda in SE Europe.






The University Of Sheffield Department Of Politics and the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield-CITY College in Thessaloniki, Greece joint summer school focuses on making students aware of the migrant crisis and its wider political, economic and social implications, through a series of lectures, workshops, guest speeches and volunteering.



About the summer school

A migrant or a refugee? What is the refugee status and the right to asylum? How does the migrant crisis connect with the different socio-economic and political crises occurring in Southeast Europe? How is the migrant crisis handled in Greece? These are some of the questions that will examine of this summer course. You will attend lectures on migration, listen to real life experiences, views and insights from academia, people working in NGOs and public authorities managing migration flows in Greece and volunteer on site with an NGO. The summer school on migration has 4 basic pillars that will allow you through lectures, practitioner guest speakers, experiential learning, coaching sessions and volunteering to give you insight on the migration crisis:
Academic Knowledge

Six 2 hours academic lectures dealing with the broad spectrum of parameters pertaining to the migrant crisis, including political, economic and social issues.
Practitioner's Insight

A series of practitioner guest speakers who will share their experience with working.
Experiential Learning: Coaching Sessions

Part of the participants’ experiential learning will include two 2 hours coaching sessions.
Experiential Learning: Volunteering

Participants will visit and volunteer onsite with an NGO already operating in a refugee welcome centre.
