A film of Dimitris Rondiris’ acclaimed touring production of Sophocles’ Electra for Peiriaïkon Theatre, shown in Modern Greek without subtitles – exactly as it was screened on British television (ITV channel) in 1962.


Introductory talk by Dr Anastasia Bakogianni (Massey University, New Zealand)

Followed by a Q&A with classicists and film experts

Shown as part of the GREEK TRAGEDY ON THE SMALL SCREEN film season presented by the Department of Classics at the University of Reading in collaboration with Reading Film Theatre and the Department of Film, Theatre and Television

Location: All films will be shown in the Minghella Building
