*"A BYZANTINE CHRISTMAS" *

A concert of Byzantine chant and Greek carols

*Spyridon* *Antonopoulos*, early music scholar and director of the
*Psaltikon* *Ensemble*, will lead "*A Byzantine Christmas*," a program of
medieval Byzantine chant and *kalanda*, the traditional carols for
Christmas and New Year's, from various parts of Greece, Asia Minor, and the
islands.

*Psaltikon*, one of the only ensembles in the world that performs medieval
Byzantine chant from original manuscripts, will perform ecstatic settings
from the medieval and modern repertories of Jerusalem and Constantinople,
led by Dr Antonopoulos with accomplished cantors from Greece and the
US.  The choir will be joined by an ensemble of acclaimed world musicians,
including *Vasilis* *Kostas* (laouto), *Phaedon* *Sinis* (lyra), *Paddy*
*League* (violin), and *George* *Lernis* (percussion). Dramatic readings,
from the Christmas stories of modern Greek authors, will be narrated in
English throughout the program.
