The 7th Biennial MGSA Pedagogy Workshop, focused on "Foreign Language
Literacy" <https://www.brown.edu/academics/modern-greek/literacy-workshop/>
Friday-Saturday, November 4–5, 2016
at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island

A warm invitation is issued to people teaching in the fields comprising
Modern Greek Studies, particularly Greek language and related undergraduate
courses on Greece, and to those developing, directing, or coordinating
undergraduate curricula that include Greek instruction at the tertiary
level. As a basic starting point for workshop participation, Rick
Kern's *Language,
Literacy, and Technology* is highly recommended reading.

*Keynote Presentation, Friday, 5–6pm

"Teaching Languages and Literacies for Communicative Competence and Beyond:
Toward a Relational Pedagogy," by Rick Kern (Professor and Director of the
UC-Berkeley Language Center, and author of Language, Literacy, and
Technology (Cambridge UP, 2015).

*Saturday's sessions

be structured workshop presentations and activities by members of the
steering committee and a roundtable discussion in which new projects
relating to language literacy instruction are presented by Dimitris
Antoniou and Karen VanDyck (Columbia U), Maria Hadjipolycarpou (Columbia
U), and Themistoklis Aravossitas (U Toronto).

The workshop is organized with local support from the Brown Modern Greek
Studies Program <https://www.brown.edu/academics/modern-greek/> and MGSA
<http://www.mgsa.org/>. The keynote address on Friday has been kindly
co-sponsored by the Brown Department of Classics
