Monteagle Stearns, the American career diplomat who, after serving as deputy chief of mission in Athens in the early 1962s,  was the US Ambassador to Greece from August 1981 to September 1985, passed away on May 14, 2016, at his home in Cambridge, MA.  A good friend of Greece, Ambassador Stearns was the author of Entangled Allies. U.S. Policy Toward Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus (Council on Foreign Relations, 1992).
