Under the imprint COLENSO BOOKS, I published (at the end of last year) a volume of Marjorie Chambers' translations: Three Plays by Iakovos Kambanellis (The Courtyard of Wonders, The Four Legs of the Table, and Ibsenland). This may be of interest to many on the MGSA list. It is available from <amazon.co.uk> or direct from Colenso Books by emailing <colensobooks at gmail.com>. The price is 14.50 GBP, plus postage and packing, which varies according to destination.
I am now wanting to republish, as part of an anthology of Greek poetry translated by Marjorie Chambers, several translations which first appeared in various issues of The Charioteer. I believe this journal ceased a few years ago (2011?), but I discovered only recently that the publisher of The Charioteer, Pella Publishing, closed down in December 2014. The Pella Publishing email address seems to be still live --- at least it does not return messages as undeliverable --- but no one replies.
Can anyone help me to find out who would now be responsible for the intellectual property of The Charioteer and/or Pella Publishing. The obvious person to contact would be Leandros Papathanasioou, who ran Pella Publishing, but I cannot find out how to do so.
I don't want to republish without consultation, even if formal permission is not required (Journals often assert copyright for a short time, after which it reverts to the author or translator), and any help readers of the MGSA list can give would be very much appreciated.
The main focus of Colenso Books is translation from Greek. Two works by Konstantinos Theotokis are in preparation for publication later this year, translated by J.M.Q. Davies. Many translations by Theodore Stephanides are also in process, including Karaghiozis scripts and Greek Folk Poetry; and Stephanides' Sappho translations have already been published as Sweet-voiced Sappho, with facing Greek text (obtainable as for the Kambanellis volume above, 8.50 GBP + p&p). One long-term plan is to publish or republish, with the co-operation of his family, the entire life’s work of Theodore Stephanides.
