*“The Greek Revolution of 1821: Digital Archive”*

The *Research Centre for the Humanities (RCH) *(www.rchumanities.gr) is
launching a research program entitled *“The Greek Revolution of 1821:
Digital Archive”* (https://www.nbg.gr/act4greece/1821-en/) within the
framework of the National Bank of Greece initiative *Act4Greece*, in view
of the upcoming 200th anniversary of this momentous event with European
repercussions.

*Digitization of unpublished archival material* such as memoirs of chief
protagonists, documents pertaining to the finances of war, the founding of
a new state administration, plans of cities on the eve of the Revolution,
transcriptions of war songs, scans of drawings as well as other material
remains, will become freely available on an unprecedented scale. Greeks
both in Greece and abroad, teachers and researchers from all over the
world, will have open access to this multi-faceted material in a bilingual
database. Moreover, users will have access to an extended bibliography and
a digital library of short essays centering on the theme of *Everydayness
in a war-stricken society.*

Importantly, *“The Greek Revolution of 1821: Digital Archive” *Project (
https://www.nbg.gr/act4greece/1821-en/) also aims at contributing to the
public discussion, further dissemination of research results and the
creation of a space for the development of new trends within the
international community of the relevant fields.

For the realization of the Project, the *Research Centre for the Humanities
(RCH)* will be collaborating with a number of institutions such as museums,
libraries and archives from all over Greece.

*Encouraging studies in the humanities* has been a particularly strong
European tradition. This, however, does not seem to be as self-evident as
it used to be. The Project aims, among other things, to contribute to the
concerted efforts in Greece to fund research activities in all areas of
humanistic inquiry.

By supporting *“The Greek Revolution of 1821: Digital Archive” *Project (
https://www.nbg.gr/act4greece/1821-en/), you are helping young scholars who
have already received their doctorates to stay in the country and continue
their high quality research.

We thank you for your support.
