Fabrication of the self and Modern Greek identity in Karkavitsas’ The Beggar<http://www.kcl.ac.uk/artshums/ahri/eventrecords/2015-2016/festival/mon19/beggar.aspx>
Council Room (K2.29), King’s Building, Strand Campus
Professor Edith Hall (KCL, Classics and CHS) will investigate the intense relationship between theOdyssey and fiction, focusing on Andreas Karkavitsas’ bitter satire O Zitianos (The Beggar, 1896), the story of a beggar’s escapades, which asks how the Odyssey would look if it happened in poverty-stricken, provincial Greece at the end of the Turkocracy.
Part of the Modern Greek Studies seminar series and an Arts & Humanities Festival event.
This event is open to all and free to attend, but please book in advance using the link https://karkavitsas.eventbrite.co.uk<https://karkavitsas.eventbrite.co.uk/> to avoid disappointment.

We do hope you will join us.
