Dear colleagues,
we would like to cordially invite you to a lecture by Ass. Prof. Cas Mudde, School of Public and International Affairs, University of Georgia, on the 26th of March at 15.00. "Europe Yes, EU No! The Far Right, the 2014 European Elections, and the Euroscepticism Debate". The lecture is taking place at the Netherlands Institute in Athens (NIA), 11 Makri St. next to the metro station "Acropolis".

Cas Mudde is a leading political scientist in the fields of populism, the far right and extremism. He authored 'Western Democracies and the New Extreme Right Challenge' (2004), 'Populist Radical Right Parties in Europe' (2007), 'Youth and the Extreme Right' (2014) and various other titles on related subjects. He received his MA and PhD from Leiden University (NL).

AbstractAccording to the international media, the European Union was shaken by a “political earthquake” in May 2014. The source of that earthquake was the electoral success of so-called “anti-EU parties” in general, and far right parties in particular. But while it is true that unprecedented results were obtained by some far right parties, the overall result was not that remarkable. This lecture will look at the results of the far right in a broader historic and regional perspective, arguing that the political earthquake was highly local and will leave few broader ripple effects.

Due to the limited number of seats available you are kindly requested to make a reservation (at nia at nia.gr) before 23 March. Very best wishesTryfon Bampilis
