Thanks to all the list members who sent sympathy, suggestions and
strategies!

The daily limits on ATM withdrawals are not enough to use for business, so
I have now set up a work around using my account at HSBC in the UK,
though it will involve paying a fee - to access my own money - every time I
use a bank macjine. I have had an account at the Midland Bank for decades
before it got taken over by HSBC, and my identity and financial probity
there has never been questioned ,and neither have they ever asked for
anything resembling a Tax Certificate.
It was this financial history that made it easy, initially, to set up that
Euro bank account in Greece that recently imploded.

They quite happily and efficiently extended the daily credit limit on my UK
bank card to cover any & all expenses I might incur at publishers and
bookstores in Greece.

Of course my first stop in Athens will be at any OTHER customer friendly
Greek bank ... that is assuming they will still be in business by the time
I get there !

One last final call on your collective wisdom and goodwill :
What is the best mobile phone package to buy in Greece. ?
Vodaphone or Cosmote ?
I will need it for fairly heavy data usage, more than for voice calls
I have an unlocked Nexus that is "supposed" to work everywhere.
