An international conference on The History and Historiography in the 20th
century is taking place in Athens (18-20 June) organized by the University
of Athens, the University of Peloponnese, Historein journal, and the
International Network for Theory of History.

The conference will attempt to explore the inner and deeper connection and
interrelation between the various experiences of the century and the
various approaches to history: to see how twentieth-century historical
experiences like wars and genocides, feminism, decolonization and
techno-scientific developments link with historical schools, determine the
study of the past and contribute to our understanding of it.

It will look at how changing political, cultural and social perspectives
have effected disciplinary transformations and trends, national and
intermingling intellectual traditions, and how they all connected with
historical experience and ways of remembrance.

The conference includes keynote lectures by professors Georg G. Iggerss
(The 21st century perspective), Anthony Molho (Historians in exile) and
Joanna de Groot (Gender, imperialism and history writing since 1960),
plenary meetings as well as many parallel sessions.
