Symposium on "Editing Modern Greek Literature"
Symposium on "Editing Modern Greek Literature"

*April 27th, 2015Amphitheater of the Cast Museum, New Building of the
Faculty of Philosophy, A.U.Th <http://A.U.Th>., Thessaloniki*

The Institute of Modern Greek Studies [Manolis Triandaphyllidis
Foundation], Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, organizes a Symposium
under the title “Editing Modern Greek Literature”, to be held on April
27th, 2015 in Thessaloniki (Aristotle University, Basement of the New
Building of the Faculty of Philosophy, Amphitheater of the Cast Museum).

The Symposium is dedicated to the memory of Eleni Pachini-Tsantsanoglou
(1937-1995) and George P. Savidis (1929-1995), two distinguished editors of
Modern Greek literary texts, who, despite their premature death, left
behind a legacy of exceptional quality and impact. Both editors were not
only extremely successful teachers and researchers at the Faculty of
Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (the former in the
period 1966-1990, the latter in the years from 1967 to 1983), but they also
developed close ties with the Institute of Modern Greek Studies and its
work: G. P. Savidis as a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors, and
Ε. Tsantsanoglou through a postgraduate scholarship in her memory, granted
by the Institute in collaboration with the Department of Medieval and
Modern Greek Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, following
the donation of Kyriakos Tsantsanoglou, a former member of the Institute’s
Board of Directors.

Progress, delays and, sometimes, setbacks; common trends, heterogeneity,
even inconsistency; tendencies, problems and proposals in the field of
editorial strategy and tactics: during the last decades, all these show
that the time has come for a scientific workshop, where selected experts
with editorial experience will present their own views and exchange ideas
both with each other and with the audience, while, at the same time,
interested participants (prospective editors, teachers, philologists,
critics, students, etc.) will have the opportunity to learn more about the
current status in editing Modern Greek literature as well as about relevant
research issues and plans.

The following thematic areas will be covered:

– The editorial work of E. Pachini-Tsantsanoglou and G. P. Savidis:
evaluations and comments.

– Research report in the field of editiοns of Modern Greek literature (by
‘commercial’ publishing houses or by organizations, institutes etc.):
tendencies and problems, accomplishments and failings.

– Editions of Modern Greek literary texts for educational purposes:
tendencies and problems, accomplishments and failings.

– Editorial plans, prospects and directions: proposals of editorial method
and text establishing (linguistic, orthographical etc.), proposals
concerning accompanying material (introduction, commentary, glossary and
indexes, appendixes etc.).

Participants wishing to obtain a Certificate of Attendance upon completion
of the Symposium and, later, receive the Symposium Proceedings in
electronic form are required to register on line by the end of March 2015
at the latest (registration address:ins at phil.auth.gr). The participation
fee amounts to 15 euros per person and is to be paid at the venue on the
