sby Evgenia Adamantopoulou - May 20, 2014

Learning Greek with Hasan Özgür Tuna

The manager of the private Turkish-Cypriot TV channel Kanal SIM, Sami
Özuslu, announced that the station will be offering Greek language courses
as of May 20.

This is the first Turkish attempt of learning the Greek language through a
television program and is expected to improve the Turkish- Cypriot
relationship. The program will also be supported and promoted by several
non-governmental organizations promoting peace between the two communities.
Özuslu stressed that regardless of the final solution to the Cyprus Issue,
the two different language-speaking communities need to understand each
other.

Kanal SIM transmits in both analog and digital format, as well as through
the Turkish satellite and in applications for tablets and smart phones so
people can watch the learning program from everywhere.

The program entitled “Learning Greek with Hasan Özgür Tuna” will be
presented by Hasan Özgür Tuna every Tuesday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. Tuna
has studied Greek language and literature, animation and drama.

As stated in the channel’s announcement, the language course will be
focusing on learning the Greek alphabet and practical, everyday words and
sentences that will be useful in communication with the Greek-Cypriots.
