Cyprus Federation of America to hold 42nd conference

The PSEKA conference this year will be held between 15-17 July to coincide
with the anniversary of the Turkish invasion.

The Cyprus Federation of America will hold its 42nd conference in New York
on Saturday focusing on the Cyprus issue and the critical phase it is
undergoing, 40 years after the Turkish invasion.

The government of Cyprus will be represented by Kate Clerides, Presidential
Commissioner for Overseas Cypriots and Humanitarian Affairs, while Greek
Cypriot negotiator, ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis and Director of the
Diplomatic Office of the President, Nicos Christodoulides will also attend
the event.

Clerides will also represent the government at events on April 6 in Astoria
to mark the beginning of the EOKA liberation struggle (EOKA was the
organization of Cypriot fighters who led the 1955-59 anti-colonial
struggle). She will also represent the government at the Greek Independence
Day Parade at Fifth Avenue between 64th and 79th Streets on March 30.

President of the Federation, Constantine Tsentas said that issues
concerning youth and how it can contribute to the Cyprus issue, as well as
to the Federation and cultural issues, will be examined in detail at the
meeting.

Tsentas also said that in view of the 40th anniversary of the Turkish
invasion of Cyprus in July, the conference will discuss how overseas Greeks
in the US can promote the Cyprus issue in Washington and anyone who can
contribute towards the right direction.

A special discussion will be held Saturday afternoon where Cyprus’
Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Nicos Emiliou and Ambassador
to the US, George Shakalis will inform delegates on the latest developments
on the Cyprus issue and the role of the US administration.

Clerides, as well as the President of the Cyprus President of the World
Coordinating Committee "Justice for Cyprus” (PSEKA), Phillip Christopher
will also address the conference.

"It seems that Americans now have an upgraded role in the Cyprus problem
and how to promote a solution. However, overseas Greeks need to help
towards this direction and see how we can help in this direction”, he added.

The PSEKA conference this year will be held between 15-17 July to coincide
with the anniversary of the Turkish invasion.

Speaking about his first anniversary as president of the federation,
Tsentas said that apart from efforts to promote the Cyprus issue in
Washington, in collaboration with PSEKA, we also dealt with the economic
crisis in Cyprus and how to help. "I am satisfied with all associations and
members of the federation who made significant efforts towards this”.  —
