2014 Graduate Research Colloquium in Modern Greek Studies


CALL FOR PAPERS

The annual Graduate Research Colloquium of the Society for Modern Greek Studies, will be hosted by the University of Birmingham on Thursday 12 June 2014 (Lecture Room 1, Arts Building). Contributions may be in any area of Modern Greek Studies, including literature, history, linguistics, anthropology, cultural and media studies etc., or they may be of an interdisciplinary nature.

Submissions are invited from registered postgraduate students (Master's degree or PhD) at UK universities. Visiting students and those who have recently completed a research degree may also be considered if there is room in the programme; they should enquire before submitting an abstract. Those giving papers must be members of SMGS, or else should become members by the time of the Colloquium.

Papers should be in English and should on no account exceed 20 minutes. There will be a maximum of ten speakers, with questions and discussion at the end of each session. Proposals, including a title and abstract, may be sent as an e-mail attachment to:

to arrive by 21 March 2014 at the latest. Abstracts should be of no more than 200 words and submitted in a word document bearing the name of the applicant (please transliterate any Greek words to avoid software problems). Please also indicate the degree for which you are registered, your university, and the name of your supervisor. Please include both your postal address and e-mail. Those who submit proposals will be notified as soon as possible whether their submissions have been accepted. Speakers will receive a free lunch and reimbursement of their travel expenses (within the UK only).
