"Religious Identities and Religious Freedoms in Contemporary Europe: The
Role of School Education in France and Greece"

Respondent: Leah Haus (Vassar, Political Science)

Margarita Markoviti is a 2014-2015 visiting scholar at the Center for
European and Mediterranean Studies, New York University.

She completed her PhD in European Studies at the London School of Economics,
where she has taught and specialized in comparative European politics,
religion and national identity, education policies and European
integration. She holds a BA in History from King’s College, University of
London, a Master en Affaires Européennes from the Institut d’Etudes
Politiques, Sciences Po, Paris and an MSc in European Studies Ideas and
Identities from the LSE. In January 2015 Margarita will join a 16-member
research team at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy as
Postdoctoral Fellow on the European Research Council funded project
entitled “Directions in Religious Pluralism: Examining Grassroots
Mobilizations in Europe in the Shadow of European Court of Human Rights
Religious Freedom Jurisprudence”.
