Subject: Summer Research Scholar Program Call

Dear Colleague,

The European Union Center of Excellence and University Library System at the University of Pittsburgh are pleased to announce our 2013 Summer Research Scholar Program!

Please distribute the following information to those you know who may be interested :

Through its Summer Research Scholar Program, the European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE) in collaboration with the University Library System
(ULS) at the University of Pittsburgh seeks to facilitate and further research on all aspects of European integration and the European Union.
The EUCE and ULS are offering short-term (1-4 weeks) research grants to post-doctoral and senior scholars to be in residence at the University of Pittsburgh.

Applicants for the Summer Research Scholar's Program should be pursuing a research project on any aspect of European integration or the European Union. Proposals should emphasize how the time in residence at the University of Pittsburgh will advance their research project.

Selected Scholars will reside in Pittsburgh for periods of one to four weeks between June 1, 2013 and August 15, 2013. The EUCE and ULS will provide round-trip travel (up to $1,500USD) as well as a stipend of up to $3,500USD (depending on length of visit) to defer the costs of accommodation and a modest per diem. The EUCE will arrange for scholars to meet with faculty with similar interests and the ULS will provide access to the unique and comprehensive archive collection of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States in Washington DC that is housed in the ULS.

European Union Delegation Collection (EUDC): In 2007 the Delegation donated its library collection to the ULS at the University of Pittsburgh.
The gift is a virtually complete collection of European Community documents produced from the early 1950s to 2004 which were meant for distribution. The highlight of the collection is the research files which are about 650 linear feet of folders documents arranged by subject. Most of the documents in these folders are smaller stapled documents, many of which would be difficult to locate elsewhere. A "finding aid" for the EUDC will be available on the ULS website by late March. To be notified when it is available, contact Phil Wilkin at the address below.

Note: Applications will be evaluated based upon the suitability of materials in the EUDC to the proposed research objectives. Questions regarding the EUDC should be directed to the ULS bibliographer who oversees the Collection, Phil Wilkin (pwilkin at pitt.edu).

Grant Applications should be sent to euce at pitt.edu, subject line: "Summer Research Scholar Program" and should include:

* A cover letter explaining why and for how long the researcher wants to
work in Pittsburgh;
* A description of the research to be undertaken which specifically
addresses the research project's relevance to European integration and the European Union; and
*       A current C.V.

Applications deadline:  April 15, 2013.

This project is funded in part by the European Union.

Thank you for help in sharing this exciting opportunity,

Rebecca Young
