I cannot verify whether the leader of SYRIZA has worked as a civil engineer
in the Greek construction sector but can attest to the business background
and entrepreneurship of Greece's newly appointed Health Minister.

It remains to be seen whether the Health Minister's scholarly background
and business credentials* will enable him to tackle the formidable challenges
facing the Greek national health system in this era of extreme austerity.

of the Hellenic Ministry of Health.

Subject: [MGSA-L] Only the Left Can Save Greece

My interest in sharing the NY Times Op-Ed written by two academics at the University of Texas was to stimulate debate on what direction Greece should follow. The authors seem to clearly state that the old policies of PASOK/ND are currently not working and perhaps other strategies, perspectives, and ideas are needed to rescue Greece from its current conundrum. They conclude that if it comes to power, SYRIZA will not fundamentally alter any relationship Greece has with American banking interests, while alternatively, their beef is with the EU and its agencies. The main point is: Should SYRIZA be given a chance to govern or not? Should the policies of ND/PASOK be followed for the foreseeable future or not?

By the way, the original headline in the issue of the International Herald Tribune was 'Only the Left can Save Greece'. It was modified to SYRIZA for the online version.

P.S. According to the Wikipedia entry on Alexis Tsirpas. He worked as a civil engineer in the Greek construction sector.
