Biographical Note: miriam cooke is the Braxton Craven Professor of Arab
Cultures and Director of the Duke University Middle East Studies Center.
She has authored and coauthored many books and papers, focusing primarily
on the role of gender in war and Arabic culture, two of which were selected
as Outstanding Academic Books. Her current research interests include
Islamic Feminism and the networks being established by Muslim women in the
21st century. She has given numerous media interviews about her scholarship
on Muslim women, including an appearence on the Charlie Rose show in 2011.
