Georgios Chortatsis, a contemporary of Shakespeare, was the greatest playwright of Venetian Crete.
Rosemary Bancroft-Marcus presents her new book Georgios Chortatsis (fl. 1576-1596): Plays of the Veneto-Cretan Renaissance (OUP), containing all the known works of the “father of Modern Greek theatre”, newly edited and accompanied by English translations.
Rosemary will talk about her book and read extracts from her texts and translations. Other speakers will be David Holton and Elizabeth Jeffreys.
