NYU in Athens 2013!
Dear MGSA Members,
This
is a call for applications to the NYU in Athens Program, held this
summer from June 29th until August 10th. NYU in Athens is a six-week
summer program in Athens, designed for both undergraduate and graduate
students from all U.S. Universities. Students can take up to 8
transferable credits and fully immerse in the culture, society, and
history of Greece and the Mediterranean. NYU in Athens offers Modern
Greek language courses at all levels, as well as courses on archaeology,
history, literature and photography.
Students participate in site visits that include but
are not limited to archaeological site and museums, cultural activities
such as concerts, plays and dance performances. Participants also go on
weekend program trips to islands such as Crete and Santorini.
The past few years, NYU in Athens has also designed a
special program that addresses all aspects of the European debt crisis,
including the cultural, social, political, economic and historical
effects of the crisis on Greece and Southern Europe. This part of the
program offers specialized courses, guest speakers, program seminars,
and site visits, and will encourage students to actively experience and
expand on the current situation in Greece through original projects that
range from personal blogs to creative group initiatives.
We are very happy to offer college students the
opportunity to be a part of the rapid developments that are undeniably
shaping the current sociopolitical landscape of Europe. The program is
open to students of any background, but may be applicable to
anthropology, archaeology, politics, history, comparative literature,
philosophy, photography, journalism, classics, economics, visual arts,
theater and Hellenic Studies.
Students at NYU in Athens stay at the five star
boutique hotel St. George Lycabettus, in the beautiful Athenian
neighborhood of Kolonaki.
The program accepts applications on a rolling basis and is open to students from all U.S universities.
