Conference:
70 years after the Holocaust

The Department of Political
Science, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the support of the Research Committee of Aristotle University and sponsored by the Municipality of
Thessaloniki and the Jewish Community
of Thessaloniki, organizes a conference on the occasion of the 70th
anniversary of the deportation and extermination of the Jews of Thessaloniki in
the Nazi camps.
The conference will take place at the
City Council (1st floor), Thessaloniki City Hall (New Hall, Vas. Georgiou str.
1) on Friday 5 and Saturday, April 6, 2013.
Members of the Department of Political Science as well
as from other academic departments and institutions in Greece will present
their research works. The areas covered include the historical context
and the political implementation of the "Final Solution" in Greece
and Europe, economic, political, ideological and social tensions in
Thessaloniki during the Occupation, anti-Semitism, pre-war history of the Jews
in Thessaloniki and post-war reconstruction of the community. The case of
Thessaloniki will also be examined in comparison to other Greek and European
cities, where the Nazi "Final Solution" was applied.
