> I write to confirm that we WILL be going ahead with the talk scheduled for tomorrow night, Thursday, at 7:15. Professor Fay Zika will be flying back to Greece in a couple days. So, while we realize it will be difficult for some people to attend the talk at this time, we will persevere and still seize this opportunity to hear our invited speaker. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow then at 7:15, in Hamilton 517-- a lecture hall just one floor below our usual venue (details below).

[******Please note also that the ICLS talk scheduled for this afternoon with Dimitris Papanikolaou (University of Oxford) has been postponed for a later date. Details will follow in due course.]

> "The Revival Of Multimodal Aesthetics And Contemporary Greek Art"
>
> On Thursday, November 1st
> At 7:15 p.m., Hamilton Hall, Room 517

> ABSTRACT
>
> Recent years have witnessed a return to aesthetics in relation to "the redistribution of the sensory." One aspect of this relates to the questioning of the separation of the arts based on distinct senses and the so-called hegemony of vision, leading to a revival of multimodal aesthetics. I trace the contemporary revival to recent developments in neuroscience and new media technologies, as well as to the rising tendency towards more participatory and performative forms of art. My aim is to connect this theoretical discussion to artistic manifestations, focusing on the contemporary Greek art scene. Reference will be made to institutional contexts such as the National Museum of Modern Art (Ethniko Mouseio Syghronis Tehnis) and the Athens Biennales; alternative venues such as the Elefsina factory site and the Empros theatre; and a number of (visual) artists or groups who work in a multisensory direction such as Haralabous, Navridis, Tranos, Xagoraris, Omada Filopappou et al.
