Suzanne Tremblay and The Gershwin Hotel Present:
Ersi Sotiropoulos’ “Plato in New York”
Opening Reception: Thursday, October 11 6PM-8PM
Artist in Residence September 6-October 25
At the Gershwin Hotel (7 E 27th Street New York, NY)

Suzanne Tremblay and The Gershwin Hotel are pleased to present the groundbreaking and riveting presentation of a twenty-first century view on “Plato in New York” from acclaimed Greek writer Ersi Sotiropoulos.

From the artist: “Plato in New York is a work in progress that uses fictional narrative, dialogue and visual poetry as a way of exploring the identity of the city through analogies between two distinct/very different times and cultures. The idea is to portray New York as Plato's cave, a complex place where it is almost impossible to separate the real from the virtual. Plato wrote, ‘How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?’ With the virtual devouring big chunks of the real, apparent these days in the financial world and the media, Plato’s questions seem as relevant as ever.”

The show: “Plato in New York” will begin at 6:30PM in the Living Room. Reception to follow.

About the artist: Ersi Sotiropoulos is an avant-garde writer in the Greek literary world. Born in Patras, she studied philosophy and cultural anthropology in Florence and worked with the Greek embassy in Rome. She published her debut novel, The Trick, in 1982.
