A presentation by journalism student Alexis Georgiadis

The talk is part of the Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies' (
CSAMES <http://www.csames.illinois.edu/>) Brownbag Lunchtime series.

Alexis is a junior in broadcast journalism at the University of Illinois
and a 2011 recipient of the Peter Agris Journalism Scholarship. A native of
Champaign, IL, she spent a transition year after high school interning
at The Cyprus Mail in Nicosia, Cyprus and volunteering at the Cyprus
Institute for Neurology and Genetics. In summer 2010, while attending the
TFAS Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University, she also
served as a news radio intern with WTOP-FM in Washington, DC. This past
summer she completed a media fellowship with the Next Generation Initiative
where she was based in Athens reporting on the situation in Greece (
http://www.hellenext.org/reinventing-greece/). In this talk, she will be
making a presentation on the media's affect on the Cypriot and Greek
situation based on that experience.
