Competition The HBI (Hadassah-Brandeis
Institute) is still accepting submissions for
our annual competition to translate a book on
a topic that deals in a significant way with
Jews and gender. While all types of
translation will be considered, the committee
prefers books requiring translation from
another language into English. Books
originally published at any time will be
considered. Previous winners include: 2011
Nina Lichtenstein for "Pour l'amour du père"
by Chochana Boukhobza (French to English)
2010 - Shulamit Gilboa for "Four Men and One
Woman" (Hebrew to English) Reina Reiner for
"The Audacity of Holiness" (Hebrew to
English) Judith Batalion for "Freuen in di
Ghettos" memoirs by women living in WWII
ghettos (Yiddish to English) Applications are
due by November 16, 2011. Decisions will be
announced by February 16, 2012. Details on
