Western Connecticut State University is seeking candidates for The Macricostas Visiting Endowed Chair of Hellenic and Modern Greek Studies for the Spring 2012 semester.  In conjunction with the Dean of Arts & Sciences and the Advisory Board of the Center for the Study of Culture and Values, the Chair shall bring students, faculty, and the larger community together for the pursuit of Hellenic and/or Modern Greek scholarship.

Responsibilities:
During this one-semester appointment, the holder of this distinguished chair will teach two courses in his/her area of specialty as well as deliver two public lectures or programs. These lectures or programs, along with exemplary student work, will be published as the Macricostas Hellenic and Modern Greek Archive. Additionally, the Chair will be expected to be available for informal interaction with students and faculty. Although, the Chair will be free to pursue research projects, he/she will be responsible for developing and fostering relationships with the local community. These activities may take the form of participation in presentations, consulting with local and area agencies and organizations, and regional and national professional association conferences. The Chair will support and participate in student organization activities and perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Office space, related budget, and travel funds will be provided, as well as shared access to clerical support.

Qualifications:

  *   Doctorate or terminal degree in an academic discipline related to Hellenic and Modern Greek Studies is required; specific academic discipline is open
  *   Prior successful teaching experience in a higher education environment
  *   Excellent communication skills
  *   Individuals with equivalent experience and background qualifications will be considered
  *   A record of distinguished scholarship or public service will be important criteria for this position
