PRESS RELEASE
UMass Anthropology graduate students participating in the NSF-funded
"Cultural Heritage in European Societies and Spaces (CHESS)" program will
give presentations on their research at the American Anthropological
Association meetings in Montreal on Saturday, November 19. The panel,
"Memory, Monuments, and Commemoration: Field Legacies, Field Futures," was
organized by Prof. Elizabeth Krause, CHESS field supervisor and faculty
mentor for 2011-2012. Grace Cleary, Jill Bierly, Mackenzie Jackson, Dana
Johnson, and Seung ho Chung will present preliminary results from their
CHESS fieldwork last Spring as part of the Department of Anthropology's
European Field Studies program. Students conducted original fieldwork
projects in Spain, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, and Serbia and attended
workshops with faculty and graduate students at the University of Barcelona
in Spain. The CHESS program is funded by a three-year, $149,500 research
and training award (NSF-OISE #* **0968575*) directed by Prof. Krista Harper
and Prof. Jaqueline Urla, co-principal investigators.
