The immediate post-war legal purges appeared as both an international and domestic question for each European country and remained so down to the very end. They emerged as a response to the multiple civil conflicts that burst in the occupied territories. The adventures of their implementation describe their subsequent adaptation to the international camps of the Cold War. With scholars specializing in different national cases and aspects of those judicial transitions, this colloquium seeks to enhance our understanding of the complex post-war state rebuilding process in Europe in which the legal norms and procedures in question emerged. The transnational dimension permits us to reconsider the dialectics of continuity and discontinuity in modern European history, as well as the impact on European collective memories of the myths and other official narratives produced through the post-war trials.
