And there is Janet Hart's book, "New Voices in the Nation - Women and the Greek Resistance, 1941-1964" (Cornell U. Press, 1996), Alexandra Halkias's, "The Empty Cradle of Democracy: Sex, Abortion, and Nationalism in Modern Greece" (Duke, 2004), Marie-Elisabeth Handman's "La Violence et La Ruse: Hommes et Femmes en un Village Grec (Edisud, 1983), Renee Hirschon's "Heirs of the Greek Catastrophe: The Social Life of Asia Minor refugees in Pireaus" (Oxford, 1989), Elisabeth Kirtsoglou's"For the Love of Women: Gender, Identity and Same-Sex Relations in a Greek Provincial Town" (Routledge, 2004), Stephen Salamone's "In the Shadow of the Holy Mountain: The Genesis of a Rural Greek Community and its Refugee Heritage" (Columbia U, 1986), Jill Dubisch's "In a Different Place: Pilgrimage, Gender, and Politics at a Greek Island Shrine" (Princeton, 1995), and Juliet DuBoulay's "Portrait of a Greek Mountain Village" (Oxford, 1974).
There are also lots of general ethnographies that contain important information about women.

Hello Martha,
The following come to mind. I'm sure that other members of the list would have more recommendations, which I hope they also share with the list.
Jill Dubisch, ed., Gender and Power in Rural Greece
Mary M. Layoun, Wedded to the Land? Gender, Boundaries, and Nationalism in Crisis
Heather Paxson, Making Modern Mothers: Ethics and Family Planning in Urban Greece.

Dear Colleagues and List Members:
Could any of you suggest sources in English for the teaching of the history of Greek women - addressing any historical period?
I would be so much obliged!
Thank-you in advance,
